Sinj, Croatia: The Six Hundred Horsemen 
Sinj and the Six Hundred. They rode out and defeated the Ottomans at that battle. 

Hussars, Winged Cavalry, old Poland, Hungary, other Eastern Europe 
A/k/a Husaria, Husarz. Peak 17th-18th Centuries. Hussars saved Vienna from the Ottomans. The frames on the shoulders and backs were lined with feathers that made a hmmmmwhrrr sound as they rode. The sound preceded the sight.
